Mariam wasn’t ever shown crying because her husband left her and now she doesn’t have a life anymore. When she got kicked out of the house by her own husband, who without any inquiry just simply blamed her for lying and calling his father a fraud.

She was never afraid of speaking up against injustice, Mariam was a strong, independent woman who knew her rights towards life and never for once she backed up on condemning anything wrong happening around her. She brought her little bundle of joy into this world and fought for her daughter’s place with the mindsets that considered her as nahoosat.

In a family where daughters were murdered even before being born, Mariam stood up for herself and denied to get an abortion. And that’s why I am sharing all my reasons for why I loved the character and how badly we need to show more such strong female characters in our dramas. What made me follow this particular drama was because of the character of Mariam played by Saheefa Jabbar. How they aren’t at all considered a naimat and the mothers get blamed for bringing them into this world as if it’s by her choice. While there are a dozen Pakistani dramas on the topic of how daughters are still unacceptable in our society even in this time and era. Beti was being aired on ARY Digital and just ended yesterday. Another drama that didn’t end with the typical happily ever after.
